derby preview

hey loves

today is the kick off for derby (thunder)... which in louisville means three weeks of random festivities for this town to party up until the big day... May 7th.  unfortunately this year the weather is utterly nasty, so i have decided to sit  inside all day looking for a new car and job, along with painting my nail (most importantly) my new nail color; dont mess with opi. love it on my toes, not sure if i am convinced it is a hand color yet... anyone else try to rock a green nail polish on the hands outside of celebrating st. patrick's day?

any who - these are some photos that were taken for the local st. matthews newspaper, the voice tribune.  all three of my looks were outfitted by the fabulous dressing room boutique - which, as everyone already knows is a stable in my weekly life.  i love the dresses that the girls picked for the shoot because it gives you an idea of a couple of different vibes that you could go with - long flowing dress (which is my look this year), uber adorable fitted mini with a contemporary hat/fascinator or more of a cutesy dress with a traditional large hat (classic look of derby).  all three are amazing styles... anything can go as long as you dont forget you hat, heels and bourbon.

what style/vibe are you channeling for the derby this year?

wedding white... minus the wedding

being from the bluegrass, some fashionista hold to the old standing rule (southern in my opinion) no white before memorial day... this editorial has be itching to strut the shit out of some white asap, from head to toe.

what are your thoughts on this fashionista faux paw?

hey loves

with Derby being just over a month away louisville is crazy with all the ladies shopping and bustling around town for the perfect outfit and all the accessories... i love this time of year, others become stressed and dont enjoy all of the fabulous options out there to make your derby day statement.  over the many years of doing Derby i do believe that the biggest concern, besides the lines for the ladies room is the shoe... i mean you are standing and moving typically all day long in fab heels.  some ladies pack flip flops... not my style to be honest, but if i have the option of something chic and flat that is another scenario.  the flats above could be worked in with multiple short, fun, flirty, spring dresses and it places a whole new spin on the derby day look, along with comforting the feet.  what do you think? personally as much as i look a cute masculine flat with something uber girlie i am not sure if i could do it... i am a woman of the pump (wedge, heel, stiletto).

what is the derby style you are shooting for this year?

traveler's dream sequence

(images via shopbop)

while doing my daily purusing of my fav fashion sites i was completely smitten with shopbops fashion trends photo sequence... absolute perfection.  completely sums up what my closet needs to encompass this spring/summer - bohemian traveler, seduced by everything that is vibrant and effortless chic.  the ADAM red bell bottoms are oh so groovy - the yellow skirt is screaming barefoot in dewy grass and lets not for get the romper in missoni.... (sigh).  is it just me or did shopbop just cumsumate the shit out of the retro look
what are some of your favorite looks for this spring/summer?
